You will use old books and magazines to create visually arresting pieces of writing by removing, rearranging and changing words from existing pieces of text. Add to your literary collage masterpiece with images, colour or cut-out words in this fun hands-on workshop.

A guided creative writing workshop designed to get the creative juices flowing in a fun, pressure-free environment. Writing exercises, prompts and creative group activities to overcome the terror of the blank page and experiment with new forms and themes.

POETIC CATHARSIS

Let your feelings flow onto the page with a series of generative writing prompts that use poetry as personal catharsis. Then explore several poetic styles and techniques that can help you hone a personal piece of journalling into a dynamic poem. The final part of the workshop invites participants to bear witness each other’s writing with the option to share your poetic works aloud. 

1-3 hours.

SLAMMIN’ SPOKEN WORD

Create a new piece of poetry designed to pop in performance. Using inspiration from your daily life and experiences, explore structure, dynamics and rhythm in the delivery of your text and learn techniques to engage your audience.

2 -3 hours. Can be run in conjunction with a spoken word event.

WRITE ON ART

Discover ekphrasis by using visual art as inspiration for new pieces of poetry or short prose. Practice deep description and experiment with new forms while meeting other writers in the creative surrounds of a gallery space.

1 – 2 hours. Best delivered as a walking tour or inside a gallery or art space.

Explore techniques for writing dialogue that is powerful, effective and says what you need it to say! Great hands-on session for playwrights, screen writers and writers of creative fiction.

1-2 hours.

SHORT PLAY IN A DAY

Get that awesome idea for a play out of your head and onto paper! Explore the whole script-writing process from world-building to generating dialogue to dramaturgy with hands-on activities designed to get you started on your own play idea.

Minimum 3 hours, up to a full day.

DIRECTOR’S VISION BOARD

In this step-by-step guide to building a creative vision for a text-based play, you will create a concept for a complete production by employing a process of dramaturgy on your chosen playscript. Incorporate design & stylistic choices to build the world of the play and practice script analysis and character development in this hands-on session.

Minimum 2 hours, up to a full day.
