director’s Bootcamp

Aspiring theatrical directors are invited to hone their skills with Megan J Riedl in this intensive workshop.

Megan’ J Riedl is a playwright and director who has worked with Skin of Our Teeth, Creswick Theatre Company, Ballarat National Theatre, Hobo Playhouse and independantly on projects from monologue series, to one-man shows, to large scale productions with casts of 16. She is known for creating beautiful worlds of stylised realism.

In this step-by-step guide to building a creative vision for a text-based play, you will create a concept for a complete production from vision board to opening night. Employ a process of dramaturgy and incorporate design & stylistic choices to build the world of the play and receive tips and tricks to script analysis, character development, auditions and rehearsals.

Participants are encouraged to work on a play they intend to submit for future seasons at community theatre companies or stage in an independent production.

Suitable theatre-makers of all kinds. You may be a actor, technician or writer who is interested in stepping into directing roles in the future. Or you may already have directing experience but want to dedicate time to the development of a particular project. Senior Secondary or Tertiary theatre students are also welcome.

what’s the commitment?

2 x Full Days (5.5 hours each), plus a couple of hours of preparation before each session.

You will need to bring: A copy of the playscript to bring with you, Laptop or notebook & pen, Your own lunch, or money to purchase at the nearby shops.

Morning and afternoon tea is provided. A Kitchen is available for those wishing to bring and prepare their own lunch.
