I’ll be bringing some of my poet friends to perform original works on the main stage at the Smythesdale Fiesta this weekend.
There’s also visual arts exhibitions, market stalls, creative activities and food and it’s all FREE. Come down to the Smythesdale Village Green in Brooke Street, 10am to 3pm.
Joining me will be Melissa Watts, Bronwyn Blaiklock and Craig Coulson.
Bronwyn Blaiklock is a multidisciplinary creative: a poet, a pianist, a reformed perfectionist. Her poetry leans in, is always short and often sharp. She has been called a reverse thief, whose words leave little treasure parcels in the imagination. She is tender and tough, a voice of sound bombs and balance. She also confesses to having an affair with an accordion, but whatever you do, don’t tell the piano.
Melissa Watts is a Ballarat-based writer. She has published non-fiction, fiction and poetry. Melissa’s words have been turned into bronze sculptures and piano pieces played to audiences in New York. Her latest project is a poetry collection, Small Towns: Poems of people and place (2022).
Craig Coulson is a public speaker and spoken word poet. Based in Mt Egerton, he is a regular performer at Ballarat’s Words Out Loud and his work covers a range of topics including social justice and theology. In 2019 Craig played the role of Bishop Murphy in a staged reading of Sara Jarrold’s ‘Penance’ at Trades Hall, Ballarat.
