Pandemic #44 / Monopoly

A short piece about capitalism from a board games prompt from the Writing Challenges With Fleassy.

During lockdown and the school holidays, we’ve been playing a range of board games. Monopoly has become a favourite because both my kids are getting more into maths and enjoying learning about handling money. But I can’t help feeling a bit wrong about encouraging my family to play a game which is essentially capitalism for beginners.

Monopoly
Remember how we turn on each other, money grubbers
And how dirty the winner feels
And how the loser, having been taken advantage of and downtrodden
Now has the added indignity of having to pack up the mess,
pick up the pieces
But it’s just a game, isn’t it?
