NaPoWriMo – A Poem A Day for April

I’m taking the National Poetry Writing Month challenge and attempting to write a poem every day for the month of April. No guarantee on quality, but I’m committed to share them with you.

Here’s the first three attempts.

Acidity
Loneliness, an acid
Corroding an ever widening hole
A cavity where trauma sleeps and festers
Gathering around it heinous bedfellows
Guild, anger, anxiety, hatred
Your tears no less salty that the world ocean is wide
Its lapping rhythm etching out the chasm
Until all that’s left of you is a smiling shell

Light Pollution 1
For kilometres we see the glow
The pulsing bubble of light that tells
Of human endeavour pooled
This place is peopled – no -polluted
We interchange those words now
Just as we reshape the world to our own ends
In claiming it we must never rest
Not even for the dark
We live life alight
Leaving everything charred and a bitter stench in our wake
We used to drive over a the last rise
Marvel at the sprinkling of city lights
And feel no guilt

Light Pollution 2
Just centimetres from our faces
The blue light rewires our very brainwaves
And requires vigilance
Else some vital tidbit missed
Some opportunity to seek attention
Making a connection to people
Even trolls who hide under bridges
It’s better than turning your face away
And seeing yourself alone
In the dark edges around the shining portal
Your soul like a Wilde portrait
Real life a festering wound
Presenting insta-filter perfection to the world in its stead
